Why "Just" Digital Pet Photos Might Be Robbing You of Joy

Beyond the Screen: The Delight of Physical Photos

Sometimes, when I'm looking through photos of my own dogs, I find myself pausing on a particular expression, a certain tilt of the head, and I think, 'That's them.' It's a fleeting moment, captured, and yet it feels like it holds so much of their personality. We take these photos to remember. But how often do those memories stay tucked away in our phones? Perhaps that's why there's something so different, so much more resonant, about seeing that moment physically displayed. Is it possible digital photos alone just can't quite capture that full feeling? There's something undeniably different about seeing that moment printed —a constant, quiet reminder of the joy they infuse into our lives.

I experienced this firsthand with my own wedding. my husband,Ben, and I were married in Jamaica in May of 2023, and it was truly a wonderful experience. We hired an incredible local photographer, and the photos were absolutely stunning, capturing the vibrant colors and pure joy of the day. As soon as I received the images, I knew I wanted to create something special. I immediately designed a beautiful album, filled with the story of our wedding day. I also had several acrylic wall art pieces made, including a large one featuring all our guests, which now hangs proudly in our dining room. Every time I walk past it, I'm transported back to that warm, sunny day, surrounded by the people we love. It's a tangible reminder of a moment that meant the world to us.

We also held a reception here in July, to celebrate with those who couldn't make it to Jamaica. Again, beautiful photos were taken, capturing the love and laughter of the evening. But then, life got busy. The summer flew by, work piled up, and those photos, though equally precious, ended up living in the cloud and on a hard drive. They're still there, waiting. It's a stark reminder that even with the best intentions, those digital files—meant to hold joy—can get lost in the shuffle of everyday life, unseen and unappreciated.
